New Study Shows Rise in Lung Cancer Among Non-Smokers | Fox ...

A new study found that cases of lung cancer are on the rise among non-smokers. Today on Sunday Housecall, Dr. David Samadi reminded viewers that lung cancer kills more Americans than breast cancer, colon cancer and prostate cancer combined. Only 230,000 are being diagnosed and about 150,000 people die as a result. He said this study shows an increase particularly among female non-smokers.

So while smoking may be the number one cause of lung cancer, perhaps secondhand smoking and radon (odorless, colorless gas), and asbestos are to blame for the increase. Dr. Samadi says the number one way to prevent lung cancer is to stop smoking. The survival rate of five years is only 15 percent compared to 99 percent for prostate cancer.

Dr. Marc Siegel cautioned that there is also thirdhand smoke, meaning the toxins such as cyanide that land on your furniture from smoking.
