Taking the Gold: BMW Group Design Sweeps the Automotive Brand ...

Continuing to dominate the automotive market in both already-developed cars and concept cars, BMW had an impressive showing at the German Design Council?s Automotive Brand Contest 2012. Taking home a grand total of 48 awards, BMW Group Design showed again the exceptional design quality and painstaking effort that goes into every single BMW vehicle. Here are just a few of the designs that stood above the competition:

BMW i8 Concept Spyder

Combining incredible fuel efficiency and a futuristic, sleek design, the BMW i8 Concept Spyder is truly ?the car of the future?. An intelligent lightweight design and BMW?s highly researched cutting-edge hybrid technology make the Spyder the world?s first ?hybrid-sports car?. The Concept Spyder was celebrated by the German Design Council for its use of technology and overall, impressive design.

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe

A model that is now available, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe represents BMW?s attempt at combining the comfort and aesthetics of a classic Coupe with the luxurious and exceptional performance of a sports car. The attempt has paid off, and the new 6 Series Gran Coupe has quickly come to be considered one of BMW?s best looking cars. In a competition that praises aesthetics above all else, the Gran Coupe still managed to astound and inspire.

BMW Zagato Coupe

Flaunting a style that is decidedly?nontraditional?for BMW, the new Zagato Coupe is truly a product of collaboration. Conceived as a BMW seen through the eyes of Italian coachbuilder Zagato, it presents a visually arresting and emotive exterior design. With Zagato?s famed sculpting of the vehicle and BMW?s attentive treatment of surfaces, its not surprising that the Coupe surprised and awed those at the 2012 Automotive Brand Contest.

BMW S 1000 RR

When one thinks of BMW, the mind may not immediately gravitate towards motorcycles. But, with fresh, alluring new designs, BMW has set out to change that. Lending patented technology to a motorcycle allows BMW to produce a sleek, lean new take on a performance motorcycle. With the addition of side aperture grilles to the center air box cover and a discreet revision of the asymmetrical side panels, the new S 1000 RR is shaping up to be a landmark effort for BMW and motorcycle enthusiasts alike.
