Lewiston Maine Car Insurance As Low as $45! - Auto Insurance ...
Do you need cheap auto insurance in Lewiston, Maine? At AutoInsuranceEZ.com, you?ll find the cheapest insurance rates locally. To acquire free car insurance quotes from the leading providers today, input your zip code into the quote box on this page.
Lewiston is the second largest city within the state of Maine and separated from its sister city, Auburn, by the Androscoggin River. Among the top employers in Lewiston are manufacturers and, to a lesser degree, service industries. Lately, this trend has begun to shift in favor of smaller, entrepreneurial businesses.
Fun fact: Did you know that Lewiston was a major producer of water power in the early 19th century thanks to its location on the Androscoggin River?
Car insurance in Lewiston can cost around $1,418 on a yearly basis. While this may be 10% cheaper than other prices in Androscoggin County, it is also 15% more expensive than the rest of Maine. To avoid paying such high prices on your own car insurance, keep reading!
Auto insurance carriers contemplate many elements when calculating insurance quotes, including marital status, zip code, credit score/rating, years of driving experience, and theft protection devices. Additionally, premiums differ from carrier to carrier. To verify you?re still being charged the cheapest rate, compare cheap Lewiston auto insurance quotes online.
Get Auto Insurance Quotes from these Companies in Lewiston, Maine ? Cheapest Rates Guaranteed!
Lewiston Car Insurance Factors
There are many ways that your car insurance rate can be calculated. But not all of it is out of your control; there are things you can do to be able to influence which discounts you are eligible to receive. Listed here are some of these elements in greater detail:
Your car insurance rates could vary based on where you call home. Generally, highly populated areas have higher car insurance rates because the extra number of drivers on the road raises the likelihood of an accident! The population of Lewiston is 35,057 and the median household income is $32,314.
Finding cheap auto insurance can be difficult if you are at risk for auto theft. Certain popular vehicle models are attractive to thieves, as well as vehicles which are parked often in large cities. The total number of stolen vehicles in Lewiston was 15 back in 2010.
While most of Lewiston workers enjoy a short commute time of 5-10 minutes, spending 10-15 minutes behind the wheel is almost equally likely when driving to and from work. Just over 70% of motorists will drive their own vehicle to work each day, while nearly 15% will carpool.
Those who take their education beyond high school could save money on their car insurance bill. Providers are offering lower rates to these educated drivers more frequently than ever. In Lewiston, over one-third of all residents have a high school diploma or some equivalent, while a slightly smaller percentage have not yet completed high school.
Ranked among the top 25 liberal arts universities within the United States, Bates College is a highly competitive institution which offers excellent study-abroad programs and yields a high rate of students who quickly move on to pursue advanced degrees. There is also the public University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College and a variety of medical schools available from St. Mary?s Hospital and the Central Maine Medical Center.
Unfortunately for most insurance companies, a straightforward search on the internet can reveal many of their business secrets. But even with the right information, it can still be difficult for you as an individual to determine your risk profile and get low-cost insurance. Be sure to do your due diligence prior to committing to your next car insurance policy.

Source: Killer didn't send French attacks video
PARIS (AP) ? A video apparently showing a Muslim gunman's attacks on soldiers and a Jewish school was sent to the Al-Jazeera television network but not by him, French police said Tuesday, raising the specter of a possible accomplice.
Al-Jazeera on Tuesday decided not to air a video that seems to have been filmed from the killer's point of view and includes the cries of his victims. The decision came after President Nicolas Sarkozy asked them not to broadcast it.
A French official close to the investigation said it was not sent by Mohamed Merah, a 23-year-old Frenchman who was killed in a shootout Thursday after a 32-hour standoff with police at his apartment building in Toulouse.
Another official said the envelope sent to Al-Jazeera contained a Wednesday postmark from a large postal processing center for the area around Toulouse, meaning it was unclear exactly where it was mailed from. He could not say anything about who may have sent the video.
The first official said a technical analysis had concluded that it was not sent by Merah but did not indicate whether that analysis included fingerprints, DNA, surveillance or other data.
Merah was surrounded in his apartment since a pre-dawn police raid Wednesday. Police did not elaborate on why they think he did not put the package into the mail before then.
Prosecutors have said that Merah filmed all of his attacks, which began March 11 with the murder of a French soldier. Before the spree ended, two more soldiers and three Jewish children and a rabbi were killed, while another student and another paratrooper were wounded.
Police said Merah claimed the attacks and had told them he had links to al-Qaida, traveled to Afghanistan and received weapons training in the militant Pakistani tribal region of Waziristan.
Sarkozy has called the attacks isolated acts of violence, the work of a "lone wolf" ? but investigators have questioned some of Merah's claims and say they are open to the possibility of accomplices.
Preliminary charges for complicity in murder and terrorism have been filed against Merah's older brother, Abdelkader, though no evidence has emerged that he took part directly in the shooting.
It was not clear if Abdelkader could have sent the video. Police first detained him as they carried out Wednesday's early raid.
The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
"What we know is that it (the video) was reassembled. Things were added in. We don't know if the full sequence was in it. But it was not just the video as it was filmed. There was an editing process and additions made," the first official said.
Zied Tarrouche, Al-Jazeera's Paris bureau chief, said the video had clearly been edited, with religious songs and recitations of Quranic verses laid over the footage.
The footage appeared to have been taken from the point of view of the killer, perhaps from a camera hung around his neck, according Tarrouche, who described the video to BFM television station. He said they were a bit shaky but of a high technical quality.
"You can hear gunshots at the moment of the killings. You can hear the voice of this person who has committed these assassinations. You can hear also the cries of the victims, and the voices were distorted," Tarrouche said.
The footage was contained on a USB key sent with a letter to the Paris office of the Qatar-based television company, Tarrouche said. The letter, written in poor French with spelling and grammar errors, claimed the shootings were carried out in the name of al-Qaida. The second official said it was hand written in all capital letters.
The channel said the video was received from an anonymous source on Monday and immediately passed it on to French police. It decided not to show the images.
"In accordance with Al Jazeera's Code of Ethics, given the video does not add any information that is not already in the public domain, its news channels will not be broadcasting any of its contents," the broadcaster said in a statement.
Al-Jazeera said it had received many requests by media to look at the video but it would deny all of them.
That decision came after Sarkozy, other French officials and family members of the victims had asked that it not be broadcast.
"I ask the managers of all television stations that might have these images not to broadcast them in any circumstances, out of respect for the victims ? out of respect for the Republic," Sarkozy said Tuesday.
Tarrouche said the Paris prosecutor, whose office is leading the investigation, had also called to explain the consequences of disseminating the images. But Tarrouche said the prosecutor said he would not prohibit the channel from "doing its work as journalists."
Al-Jazeera was frequently used early in the Iraq and Afghan wars as a conduit for militants, including Osama bin Laden, to distribute taped statements. As the Iraq war progressed, many of these tapes included gruesome killings and beheadings of Western or foreign hostages, although the station edited out some of the grisliest scenes at the moment of death.
The broadcasts drew outrage, especially from the U.S. government. Over time, most militant groups opted instead for posting such videos on their own websites, where they were not subject to outside editing.
Meanwhile, Merah's father, who was estranged from his son and lives in Algeria, has reportedly said he wants to file a complaint for Mohamed's death. In his address, Sarkozy expressed outrage at that idea.
Sarkozy, in the middle of a tough re-election campaign, has announced a raft of new measures aimed at preventing the spread and incubation of radical ideas, including penalizing those who regularly consult websites that promote jihad.
On Tuesday, he said wanted to speed up the process of expelling radicals from France as well as prevent them from ever entering.
"Extremists are playing with our administrative formalities. Our job is to be more efficient," he said. "Preachers who continually target our system can stay where they are. We don't want them on the soil of the French Republic."
Meanwhile, another brother, Abdelghani, told a religious representative that the family wants Mohamed Merah's body to be buried in Algeria.
The funeral home was to make the request Tuesday with the Algerian consulate, and the body would be transferred Thursday if the authorization is granted, Abdallah Zekri, a representative of the Paris Mosque in charge of Toulouse.
Abdelghani Merah initially wanted the body buried in France, but insisted he would not attend any funeral of his younger brother, "who he considers a monster," according to Zekri.
Ultimately the brother gave in to his mother's wishes, Zekri said.

Finding life on Mars: Been there, done that?
NASA file
The Viking 1 lander sent back America's first pictures from the Martian surface in 1976. This picture shows off the lander's U.S. flag and Bicentennial logo as well as the planet's landscape.
By Alan Boyle
?
Thirty-six years after an experiment conducted by NASA's Mars Viking lander sparked controversial claims about the presence of life on the Red Planet, NASA's next Mars mission could conceivably hint that those claims were correct after all.
At least that's the hope held by the experiment's principal investigator, Gil Levin, who is keeping the Mars Viking flame alive even in retirement. He still thinks Viking was "the most remarkable unmanned mission ever," but he worries that its legacy will be lost amid the scientific shuffle.
"Twenty or thirty years from now, when the economy permits NASA to rise again, there will be missions to Mars, and they will find life, and they will take credit for it and not mention Viking at all," he told me.
It might not take 20 or 30 years to bring Viking back into the spotlight, however. NASA's $2.5 billion Mars Science Laboratory mission is due to deliver the car-sized Curiosity rover to the Red Planet in August?? and although the space agency insists that Curiosity doesn't have the capability to detect life, Levin believes it could show that his experiment was on the right track when it detected the chemical traces of organic activity.
GilLevin.com
Gil Levin was principal investigator for the Mars Viking probe's Labeled Release experiment.
Hopes of confirming the presence of life on Mars were riding high when the twin Viking landers touched down on Mars in 1976. The scientific payload included the Labeled Release apparatus, designed by Levin and his colleagues, as well as three other life-detection experiments. The Labeled Release experiment, or LR, was set up to take a bit of Martian soil and add a drop of water containing nutrients tagged with radioactive markers. The air above the mix was then monitored to see if it gave off a radioactive gas such as carbon dioxide or methane. That could be read as an indication that organisms in the soil were metabolizing the nutrients.
If the experiment came up with a positive response, a duplicate soil sample ? the control ? was heated to a temperature that should have been high enough to destroy microbes, but not?to destroy any strong chemicals that might have produced?a similar?response sans life.?
The good news for Levin and the other life-hunters was that the LR experiment came out positive, and the control experiment came out negative. The bad news was that two of the other experiments came out negative, but they were based on different assumptions about potential Martian life. The really bad news was that the fourth experiment, conducted by Viking's Gas Chromatograph - Mass Spectrometer device, or GCMS, didn't detect any organic molecules in the soil.
The failure to find any organics led most scientists to assume that there was nothing living in the soil.?Most scientists?assumed that the?LR findings were just a fluke. But not Levin.
"If these results are precisely the same as the results from biological entities on Earth, that's hard to get around," he told me. Dozens of explanations have been put forward for the LR results ? for example, that the Martian environment is so chemically reactive, due to ultraviolet radiation, that the nutrients were broken down without life playing a part. Levin, however, says those explanations don't match up with the results produced during the LR experiments and the control experiments.
Hoping for new evidence
This might have ended up as one of those cold cases where nobody totally convinces everybody. But Levin says Curiosity's impressive array of scientific equipment could provide some hot new evidence. It has a suite of instruments known as Sample Analysis at Mars, or SAM, which is capable of detecting organic molecules in Martian soil or atmosphere. Another instrument suite, called ChemCam, can fire a laser blast at a soil or rock sample up to 23 feet (7 meters) away and use a spectroscopic imager to analyze the chemical composition of the vaporized material.
"I predict that one or more of these instruments, possibly all of them, will indeed find organic matter that the Viking GCMS missed," Levin said.
Finding organic molecules is not the same as finding life. After all, organic compounds have been detected within the interstellar stuff of distant galaxies, and it wouldn't be earth-shattering to detect them on Mars as well. But it would answer?the main?objection raised about the LR results.
Even more telling evidence could come from Curiosity's high-resolution cameras. Some of the pictures taken during the Viking mission showed colored patches on Martian rocks that were a fair spectrographic match for the color of lichen on earthly rocks. "The spectra were identical, but of course the images were not sharp enough to be able to make a conclusion, and everybody pooh-poohed it," Levin said.
Curiosity's color cameras will have much better resolution, and Levin said they "could detect sufficient detail to establish whether these might be lichenlike organisms." It might even be possible to take multiple looks at the same rocks, and track whether their appearance goes through the kinds of changes one would expect from lichen.
Levin said lichen, which is one of the hardiest types of organisms on Earth's surface, could conceivably have hitchhiked from Earth to Mars on meteorites. "Preserved, frozen, they could survive the entry to Mars and grow under Martian conditions," he told me.

The long search for life
The scientists who are in charge of Curiosity and the Mars Science Laboratory say that they're aiming for the same goal that Levin has in mind, but they argue that the search for life on Mars has to follow a step-by-step process.
"What the world needs to understand is that this is really the very beginning of a very systematic and deliberate form of exploration," Caltech's John Grotzinger, principal investigator for Mars Science Laboratory, told me. "The era of 'Star Trek' exploration is not over, but ... one must be more deliberate about it, because that's the way we do it on Earth, and we know that works."
Levin, however, thinks the evidence to come will show that Viking was working correctly 36 years ago. "To suggest that we should go back and start at a lower level ... means we throw away a billion dollars, in 1976 dollars. That's about $5 billion or $6 billion today that we don't have," he said.
He'd like to see a future Mars mission duplicate the LR experiment with a few added technological twists, including a check to see whether the active agent that Viking detected in the soil shows a preference for lefthanded or righthanded?versions of the same molecule. Levin says that characteristic, known as chiral preference, would be strong confirmation of life, "since chemistry cannot distinguish chirality and reactions occur equally with both 'mirror images.'"
Levin also thinks the findings from Viking should be given another good, hard look.
"Let's convene a panel of astrobiologists," Levin said. "Let's have Levin present his data. Let's have the antagonists present their data. Let's examine this trove of data which we've never examined fairly."
Will that happen in Levin's lifetime? The researcher is now 88 years old, and nobody lives forever. But he's hoping that when the next episode in the saga of the search for life on Mars plays out ... maybe in the next few months ... the Viking missions will get their share of the spotlight.
"The stories increasingly omit any mention of Viking," Levin said. "I think Viking should be lauded rather than ignored."

blake - rajivhthakor: 10 Self Improvement Activities - 1 ...
These self improvement activities will help you become more productive, get into the positive state of mind and achieve better quality of life.
In this article you will also find out how to use your energy effectively, what is the quickest way to achieve personal growth and how to excel in every activity.
1st Self Improvement Activity: Use your energy on important things
If you want to succeed in life, you should not waste your energy on activities that do not bring any benefits.
Such useless activities include surfing the Internet without any purpose, watching TV, worrying and wasting money.
When you are involved in such activities, you have no or little energy left for activities that can create a better future. It is worth prioritising and accomplishing important tasks first, and then if you still have enough energy, you may decide to do the unimportant.
2nd Self Improvement Activity: Focus on one task at a time
If you want to get perfect results, you should only concentrate on one activity. This way all your energy will go into it and you will accomplish it perfectly.
If you waste your energy on several things at the same time, you will get average results because you will divide your energy between the activities.
3rd Self Improvement Activity: Control your thinking
To avoid chaos in your mind resulting in chaos in the outside world, you should try to observe your thoughts. Once you start doing that, you will notice how many negative thoughts you get daily.
By observing negative thinking you will be able to emotionally disengage from it. As a result, negative thinking will affect you less and you will notice that your days are getting more peaceful and positive.
4th Self Improvement Activity: Get organised
When you live in an organised manner, you do not suffer from stress and your life is peaceful and balanced.
To start living this way, you should start planning your day in advance. This will eliminate any stress caused by being late to a meeting or forgetting to complete some task.
You should also live in tidiness because by keeping your home clean you also keep your mental state clear and peaceful. Such mental state will benefit you in many ways, including improved memory and less negativity.
5th Self Improvement Activity: Live in the present
Although this self improvement activity may seem strange to you, it is a very important activity that many ignore. The majority of people do not live in the present. They either dwell on their past or daydream about the future. They seem to forget the most important time of all - the present.
You should enjoy every present moment because your current state of mind always manifests in the outside world, creating your future accordingly.
Therefore if your main mood is very positive, you will experience only happy days. However, if you dwell on negative thoughts, you are sure to encounter many obstacles and misfortunes in the present and days to come.
6th Self Improvement Activity: Complete each task in a perfect manner
Whenever you are working on some project, try to accomplish it in the best way possible. Always ask yourself 'Is this project turned out as perfect as it could possibly be?' If the answer is no, try to correct or add something to it until there is nothing that you can improve.
This way you will make sure that each single task you accomplish is done in an excellent manner. By doing this you will create successful future because you cannot possibly fail if you only get perfect results.
Also, when you entirely focus on one task excluding everything else, you will notice that you start enjoying the task. If you concentrate on the task but still do not enjoy it, that means that you probably see the task as a means to an end rather than the process.
You should start focusing on the process itself to find enjoyment in the task. Such enjoyment will fuel motivation and you will accomplish everything quicker and better.
If you enjoy your work, you will put only positive energy into it. As a result, your completed tasks will bring you success.
7th Self Improvement Activity: Challenge yourself
Nothing develops you more than challenges. Challenges force you to shift your comfort zone, experience new situations and make you grow. Without challenges life would be very boring and depressing.
Challenges are necessary for every human being who is seeking quality life. Only through trial and error you realise who you really are, which activities you like and what preferences you have.
You can easily measure the success of a person by the amount of challenges s/he had.

You may not know his name, but chances are that you have seen his work. Brooklyn-born artist Charles R. Knight (1874?1953) produced paintings and sculptures of dinosaurs, mam?moths and prehistoric humans that adorn the great natural history museums in the U.S. His dinos have appeared as toys, stamps and comics, as well as in books and scientific journals on paleontology. One of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?s illustrators swiped them for his 1912 novel The Lost World. Some even became movie stars, directly inspiring sequences in the 1933 King Kong and, more indirectly, Walt Disney?s 1940 Fantasia and Steven Spielberg?s 1993 Jurassic Park. Hollywood?s master monster animator Ray Harryhausen, creator of the dinosaurs in the 1966 One Million Years B.C. and other cult classics, based his stop-motion puppets on paint?ings and sculptures by Knight.

Dental plaque bacteria may trigger blood clots

Society for General Microbiology
Oral bacteria that escape into the bloodstream are able to cause blood clots and trigger life-threatening endocarditis. Further research could lead to new drugs to tackle infective heart disease, say scientists presenting their work at the Society for General Microbiology's Spring Conference in Dublin this week.
Streptococcus gordonii is a normal inhabitant of the mouth and contributes to plaque that forms on the surface of teeth. If these bacteria enter into the blood stream through bleeding gums they can start to wreak havoc by masquerading as human proteins.
Researchers from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the University of Bristol have discovered that S. gordonii is able to produce a molecule on its surface that lets it mimic the human protein fibrinogen a blood-clotting factor. This activates the platelets, causing them to clump inside blood vessels. These unwanted blood clots encase the bacteria, protecting them from the immune system and from antibiotics that might be used to treat infection. Platelet clumping can lead to growths on the heart valves (endocarditis), or inflammation of blood vessels that can block the blood supply to the heart or brain.
Dr Helen Petersen who is presenting the work said that better understanding of the relationship between bacteria and platelets could ultimately lead to new treatments for infective endocarditis. "In the development of infective endocarditis, a crucial step is the bacteria sticking to the heart valve and then activating platelets to form a clot. We are now looking at the mechanism behind this sequence of events in the hope that we can develop new drugs which are needed to prevent blood clots and also infective endocarditis," she said.
Infective endocarditis is treated with surgery or by strong antibiotics which is becoming more difficult with growing antibiotic resistance. "About 30% of people with infective endocarditis die and most will require surgery for replacement of the infected heart valve with a metal or animal valve," said Dr Petersen. "Our team has now identified the critical components of the S. gordonii molecule that mimics fibrinogen, so we are getting closer to being able to design new compounds to inhibit it. This would prevent the stimulation of unwanted blood clots," said Dr Steve Kerrigan from the RCSI.
The team are also looking more widely at other dental plaque bacteria that may have similar effects to S. gordonii. "We are also trying to determine how widespread this phenomenon is by studying other bacteria related to S. gordonii. What our work clearly shows is how important it is to keep your mouth healthy through regular brushing and flossing, to keep these bacteria in check," stressed Dr Petersen.

Watch out for 'Hunger Games' malware
9 hrs.
Suzanne Choney
A lot of us are excited about "The Hunger Games," but don't let your excitement lead you to an online trap for malware.
As with any big event and huge public interest, "The Hunger Games" is provoking a lot of online searches for information related to the movie.
Norton, maker of security software, said Friday it has found "a variety of searches related to the movies and books are turning up malicious results."
Although difficult for the average user to distinguish, these 'poisoned' links can instantly infect your computer with viruses, keylogging programs (which allow criminals to monitor your typing) and other software that can wreak havoc on your smartphone, computer or tablet. Ensuing problems can make you feel as though you?re battling against your devices.
So far, Norton says it is seeing "malicious results" tied the film's star, Jennifer Lawrence, author Suzanne Collins, and the trilogy of books she wrote.
A recent security report warned of malware networks ("malnets") "lurking within Google and other search engines, driving unsuspecting Web surfers to sites where they might share their personal or financial information to unintended parties," wrote msnbc.com's?Athima Chansanchai, in sharing the findings from Blue Coat Systems 2012 Security Report.
"Choose your allies carefully ? Katniss Everdeen wouldn?t trust the people trying to defeat her, and neither should you," said Norton. "Cybercriminals promise sensational content, such as leaked videos, to lure you into clicking on their poisoned links. Better to get your information from a website you trust."
The best thing you can do is use security software, whether it's from Norton or another reputable firm, to alert you to any possibly dangerous websites you might stumble upon, as well as make sure you have the latest version of your Web browser's software.
Norton has a free tool, Safe Web Lite, for safer Web searching; so does McAfee.
